For many of us, living online has become the new nine to five job or the eight to three school day. Social media has been the basis of interacting for a very long time and is seen as a means of creating better relationships, but while there are pros to life online, there are cons that come with it.
It is no question that social media adds to our creative thinking and allows us to explore our minds further than what we’re used to, but the same way it awakens our minds to the positives, the negative impact it has on our minds are far worse. Our minds are made into thinking that life online is supposed to be life off screen as well.
Spending too much time online creates this distorted image of how one’s life should be, based off what they see online. This exact misconception that people have of the online world could be one of the most harmful things to the human body, mentally and physically.
We could spend our time online, learning or just browsing what some random stranger was eating for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon, how we choose to spend our time online is solely up to us. The main part of the time we still have left after that is to remember to take a breather, a walk, read a book OFFLINE and to just soak in real life to remind us that life is not just what you see on that screen you hold in your hand whole day, its also looking outside your window at 6 am listening to the bird’s chirp. You could live online, but don’t forget to live.
